According to the Medical Group Management Association’s (MGMA) 2023 “Regulatory Burden Report,” 97% of healthcare providers have experienced delays or denials in necessary patient care due to prior authorization requirements. The survey, which included responses from 350 group practices, highlighted the significant impact of regulatory burdens on patient care.
Key findings from the report include:
- Resource Allocation: 97% of respondents believe that reducing regulatory burdens would allow them to reallocate resources more effectively towards patient care.
- Medicare Patients’ Access to Care: 87% of respondents indicated that Medicare patients’ access to care is being negatively affected by reimbursements not keeping pace with inflation.
- Regulatory Burdens and Medicare Access: 77% of respondents stated that regulatory burdens are affecting Medicare access, while 54% cited staffing constraints as a contributing factor.
