Lucid Diagnostics announced the peer-reviewed publication of a real-world study evaluating its EsoGuard Esophageal DNA Test and EsoCheck Esophageal Cell Collection Device in 11,991 patients at risk for esophageal precancer. Published in Diagnostics, the study represents the largest reported real-world clinical experience of nonendoscopic testing for Barrett’s esophagus to date.
Conducted between January 2023 and June 2024, the study found that EsoCheck cell collection was successful in 95% of patients, took less than two minutes on average, and produced no reported device-related adverse events. Collection performance was consistent across operators, including newly trained personnel. Patient feedback was also favorable: 82% reported very low discomfort, 96% would recommend the test, and 95% would undergo it again if clinically indicated.
Lucid said the findings support the feasibility of implementing the testing approach at scale. The company also stated that EsoGuard is now fully reimbursed by Medicare nationwide, which it expects to support broader commercialization.
