Las Vegas—Gastroenterologists have made some progress in the pursuit of work–life balance, but the results of a recent survey suggest there is room for improvement when it comes to protected parental leave and workplace support of physicians raising families.
In the survey of gastroenterologists, 796 respondents reported putting off starting families, a pregnancy complication rate of 68% (notably higher than the 14% seen in the general population), and a persistent sense that taking adequate parental leave could backfire personally and professionally.
