For colorectal cancer screening, physicians overwhelmingly prefer colonoscopy, but average-risk adults would likely choose blood tests or at-home stool tests if given the choice, according to survey results presented at the 2022 ASCO Gastrointestinal Cancers Symposium.
“When compared to colonoscopy, less invasive modalities, such as blood or stool tests, may be preferred by individuals at average risk but have reduced sensitivity and specificity compared with colonoscopy, such that difficult trade-offs can’t be avoided,” said investigator Sebastian Heidenreich, PhD, the associate director of the patient preference team at Evidera, a global contract research group.
