Lean patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease had significantly higher mortality than non-lean patients, despite having lower rates of cirrhosis and diabetes, according to research in Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics. “While NAFLD is strongly associated with overweight/obesity, up to 20% of patients with NAFLD have normal BMI,” Vincent L.
