A jury in Tucson, Ariz., awarded $3.5 million to the family of a man who died two weeks after bariatric surgery in 2020. The patient, Jeremy Marine, developed complications post-surgery, including an infected hematoma and fluid buildup. A CT scan ordered six days after the procedure reportedly showed no issues, and he was discharged without antibiotics.
