A new randomized clinical trial published in JAMA Network Open shows that a mailed fecal immunochemical test (FIT) outreach program significantly increased colorectal cancer (CRC) screening among Medicaid enrollees in rural areas, compared to usual care.
Key Findings:
- 7.3 percentage point increase in CRC screening within 6 months (11.8% vs. 4.5%) in the mailed FIT group.
- 12-month screening rate also higher (16.8% vs. 9%).
- FIT completion was 6.3 points higher at 6 months (8.5% vs. 2.2%) and 7 points higher at 12 months.
