A new study published in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy introduces EndoZip, an automated, operator-independent robotic endoscopic suturing system developed by Nitinotes Ltd (Israel) for gastric volume reduction. In a multicenter trial involving 45 patients with obesity (BMI 30–40), the EndoZip procedure led to an average total body weight loss of 13.2% at 12 months. Notably, over 76% of participants lost at least 5% of their body weight, with significant improvements in metabolic markers and quality of life. The system achieved a 100% technical success rate with minimal serious adverse events (4.4%), suggesting it may overcome the steep learning curve of manual endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) and offer a scalable alternative to more invasive bariatric options.
